We bought a dump!

Yes, friends, we are now 3 for 3 in our home buying ventures. Each abode we have purchased has led to a first weekend wander and "Why did you let me buy this dump?" "No, why did YOU let ME buy this dump?" conversation.

Of course, this is by far the most expensive dump. For the few of you who remember the Fanshawe blog, we'll definitely be documenting this renovation as we go along. You may even get to weigh in on paint colors or other fun things.

But, hey, it has a yard. And Alex can't get enough of walking out the front door and being in "green green grass".

Ohhh, here we go! Can't wait to hear more about it! We're closing next week on ours. I'm still paranoid something is going to fall through before then so I haven't blogged about it, but really at this point I'm sure it'll go through fine. The big question is what expensive issues will pop up that we didn't anticipate...

It's got the ugliest kitchen you've ever seen and only one bathroom. We're hoping to add a second but will we really be able to do that with a newborn? Who knows. Especially when there are other "projects" that need our more immediate focus -- carpeting in the basement, removing some awful wallpaper, fixing some electrical and chimney stuff, etc. Sigh.

It's a nice place and I'm happy with our decision I think, but I really wish I could afford something that was perfect from the get go, no work required.

One day...

oops, I hadn't seen this comment when I wrote to you on FB. The biggest tragedy for me is our sellers slapped a granite counter on top of crumbling cabinets. Can we have it removed and replaced without breaking it?

And I think it's the only house in the DC area without a fireplace :-( But it does have a nice deck off the kitchen. Tradeoffs.

Exactly, some day we'll just buy the perfect place ....
