I have Malva Pudding (cake) on the brain these days. Hubs and I have fallen in love with it here in Namibia. It's a Dutch/Cape Town/South Africa thing and it is sooooooo yummy. I recently bought the apricot jam and have the recipe waiting to be tried in my own kitchen. So far I've been strong and resisted the need to make and taste. Waiting for hubs return from a business trip - that way I know I won't devour the whole thing myself. I hope your cake was absolutely perfect in every bite!!! Both my teacher and au pair brought up freuten, but that only means "glad" or "pleased" which is nowhere near what I was looking for. To the American eye, adding "über" or "hoch" to a mildly pleasant word still doesn't quite take it to the level we often overuse, but I see in the dictionary hocherfreut = exhilarated.Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17669307412041079623noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4084784096123137629.post-63034421861235217692016-10-31T14:28:56.357-04:002016-10-31T14:28:56.357-04:00Well, we can’t leave it at that, can we?
The situ...Well, we can’t leave it at that, can we? <br />The situations in which we use certain words might, of course, differ, so your Au-Pair probably already pointed out, that Germans aren’t „excited“ as often as Americans. But we are „begeistert vom neuen Harry Potter-Film“, „überglücklich“ to have passed an exam, „hin und weg“ (colloquial) about someone’s cute baby, „hocherfreut“ how some political negotiations turned out, and „glückselig“ just to be at home for christmas with our family. <br /><br />I think in accordance with German being slightly too practical we tend to use words for not very strong emotions like happy (glücklich) and just put various words in front of it as in „überglücklich, super zufrieden, echt glücklich, total zufrieden, hocherfreut."<br /><br />We do have a few words like „entzückt, hingerissen & ausgelassen“ that express strong emotions as such, but aren’t used widely. „Glückselig“ also falls in that category, whereas „begeistert“ is used very often. Especially since we can easily combine two nouns to make a new word and if the second starts with "Sch" that will give you 3 consonants already. (As you saw in Wortschatz). The 5-consonant-word I usually remember is "ängstlich" I remember I knew one with 6 consonants in a row and while thinking about it I also came up with a few more.<br />I talked to my husband and he came up with a real word with 7 and also invented one with 8 consonants: "Hirschschnitzel" (Schnitzel (escalope?) made with venison as opposed to the real Schnitzel made with veal).<br />Have fun with German :-)Idanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4084784096123137629.post-84788924706926157652016-09-20T10:04:55.372-04:002016-09-20T10:04:55.372-04:00Hi there!

So as long as you aren't in too hot of a climate - or for us, summertime - it will survive quite nicely during the two to three weeks it hangs out in mail sorting facilities before it reaches you. Thus far we have gotten cheddar through amazon.com, through my mother buying some in the store and shipping it in a regular box, and through the Wisconsin Cheese Mart cheese-of-the-month club where they ship the cheeses with an ice pack. In each case the cheese was perfectly safe to eat upon arrival and for a good amount of time beyond that. Lynnehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17669307412041079623noreply@blogger.com
